St Davids resident Clive Hayes is hoping his new car will reach a new level of success.
Hayes, who has been a member of the St Davids RNLI and runs his MCR Race Cars garage from the Broadlands Enterprise Park by Solva, has turned from being a Champion racing driver into a successful race car producer.
He was a tuner and test driver for the iconic Gilbern cars before he moved on, and in his racing career won the Welsh Sprint Championship and also the Welsh Sports and Saloon Car Championship before setting up his own business manufacturing sports racing cars in 2007.
“We have been successful, with our cars winning the prestigious Sports 2000 championship three times, and many other races, but this new car is special as it’s our first turbo car!” he said.
Using a 1.6 Ford Eco-boost turbo engine, the first trial was entrusted to the experienced driver Patrick Sherrington in OSS race at Donington Park.
Sherrington obliged by winning the first race, so it seems Hayes’ business is set for a turbo-charged future.
