Neyland 2nds beat Lawrenny 2nds by 10 wickets

Neyland became the first side into the Alec Colley Cup semi finals as their strong opening pairing of Nathan Banner and Patrick Bellerby made light work of chasing down Lawrenny's 105-6.

In the end it looked a simple win but after being put into bat, the visitors had started the night brightly as Harry Thomas and Patrick Elliott took the game to the home bowlers.

Thomas, almost certain to be involved in next week's Harrison Allen Bowl semi final with the club, began to motor in the sixth over as he twice hit Patrick Hannon back over his head for one bounce fours to take the score to 44-0.

That became 61-0 but then in the ninth over came a crucial moment when the dangerous opener tried to go big off Banner but was caught by Paul Miller in the deep for 36 (eight fours).

In the same over Banner had Phil Cole (0) LBW and momentum then really shifted when Hannon removed skipper Steve Campbell (4), again Miller showing safe hands with the catch.

It was the Neyland captain who then bowled opener Elliott for 32 (five fours) and removed Chris Buckle (2) in the same fashion - while Gary Lloyd had Matt Lewis (8) stumped by Luke Ryan.

But Alfie Buckle (10 not out) and Stuart Prosser (4 not out) added late runs to at least take the visitors past three figures.

For Neyland, Jamie Smith finished 0-11 (2 overs), Hannon 1-39 (5), Banner 2-20 (5), Lloyd 1-21 (5), and Miller 2-13 (3).

It took Bellerby and Banner just 13.5 overs to finish the job now - the latter cracking 10 fours in his 63 not out.

Bellerby meanwhile, made it more than 300 runs in four games since Thursday, surviving being dropped early on to be 36 not out (four fours).

For Lawrenny, Steven Cole finished 0-15 (3), Thomas 0-23 (3), Phil Cole 0-48 (4), and Lewis 0-22 (3.5).

The second quarter final takes place tonight when St Ishmaels host Cresselly.
