The five members of the Cricket Wales Disability squad to tour Sri Lanka in the autumn have been given a generous grant to help with their costs.
The Haverfordwest Pool Trust have awarded the young men £1,000 between them to defray the tour’s cost £1,250 per player.
“This is the first time that a Cricket Wales Disability team have been on tour and this wonderful gesture by the trustees” said Martin Jones, cricket development officer for Sport Pembrokeshire.
“It will ensure the lads will have the experience of a lifetime.”
During the eight-day tour, the squad will be based in the capital, Colombo, and will be play two one day games and two T20 matches.
The five players from Pembrokeshire – aged between 14 and 22 – in the 13-man squad are:
- Brothers Wills Malone, aged 15, and Haz Malone, 13, play for Saundersfoot Seconds and attend Greenhill School in Tenby. Wills is a versatile cricketer who has improved in all areas while Haz is an excellent fielder. Despite being the smallest on the team he has no fear.
- Completing a trio of Saundersfoot Seconds representatives in the team is Aaron O’Neill who previously played for Ormond Youth. Aaron is a natural athlete and is looking forward to the tour.
- Kieran Williams plays for Haverfordwest 4ths.He is following in the footsteps of his father, well known local cricketer Colin Williams. Kieran attends Haverfordwest High VC and is an excellent bowler.
- The team captain, Callum Power, has been playing cricket for Neyland since he was 15. He is in his third season with the Cricket Wales Disability Team. He is an amazing opening bat and frequently scores a high number of runs.
