Harrison Allen Bowl quarter final: Cresselly (115-5) lost to Saundersfoot (138-7) by 23 runs
The surprise of the quarter finals came at Cresselly as the holders were knocked out by Saundersfoot - who were superb in the field to secure a 23 run victory.
The Seasiders are struggling in Division 1 and looked in trouble at 20-4 before Danny Caine and Tom Mansbridge helped turn the tide and lead them to 138-7.
The total still looked a gettable one, but the visitors were superb in the field and stifled the home side's batting, and Cresselly fell well short having made just 115-5 in 22 overs.
After being asked to bat, Saundersfoot’s Nick Cope got going with two sixes in Ryan Lewis' first over – but wickets soon fell.
But Caine and Mansbridge put on 86 together - Caine making 51 (three fours and a six) before holing out to Lewis on the boundary, and Mansbridge made 54 (eight fours).
For Cresselly, wickets were shared between Sam Harts (2-21), Tom Arthur (2-36), Tom Murphy (2-6) and Mike Shaw (1-15).
In reply, Cresselly reached 59-0 before Phil Williams (22) was caught by John Mansbridge off Sam Franklin’s final over, and the Seasiders’ skipper was brilliant in posting figures of 1-12 in six overs, including a maiden.
Iwan Izzard made 22 before he was bowled by Neil Powling in his 3-37 – and with Nick Cope only giving away 17 runs from his six overs the pressure was suddenly on Cresselly.
Dan Sutton and skipper Lewis tried hard to up the rate but the latter could only make 8, and when Sutton fell for 52 (three fours and a six) - the visitors seized turned the screw.
Indeed, Franklin's men now lie just one win away from a first ever Bowl final.
