Goalkeeper Evan Watts was delighted to be handed his coveted Wales U16s cap by Wales’ legend Ian Rush with his proud family in attendance.
The exceptionally gifted 14-year-old footballer from Haverfordwest, currently part of the Swansea City Schools’ Academy set-up, a former Ysgol Y Preseli pupil who now attends Cwmtawe School, Pontardawe, Swansea.
The teenager was thrilled to receive his international cap at a special Football Association of Wales event held at Celtic Manor, Newport. The boys received their treasured caps from Rush, along with some wise words.
Rush, who won 73 caps and scored 28 international goals, said: “Never forget your dream. Believe in it and work hard at it.”
In September 2018 Watts was originally selected for the Wales U16s squad to travel to Moldova which was coached by the highly rated Osian Roberts and Richard Williams. He was also involved in the squad who also came close in last season’s Victory Shield.
Watts is eligible to play for Wales U16s again this season and is training and working hard towards keeping his place in the squad and possibly in the not too distant future signing full professional forms with the Swans.
