It was a great day of fun rugby at Pembroke Dock on Saturday for the annual Stuart Lewis Adults Tag Rugby Tournament.
Overall 14 teams entered, with local side ‘Bracey’s Tryers’, captained by Oliver Brace, ending up as overall winners.
The Blue Warriors, compromising of Haverfordwest youth team players and captained by Jack Evans, took the Bowl, and the Golden Oldies won the Spoon competition under skipper Patrick Russell.
The Player of the Tournament went to Izzie of the Treforest Titans, who travelled down from Pontypridd to take part and actually camped on the pitch on the Friday night.
The trophies were presented by former Wales international Dominic Day but the event was about far more than winners, with a relaxed and friendly atmosphere throughout - and some interesting kits on show!
Fittingly, Stuart’s sons Martin and Gareth Lewis were also involved in what was a fitting tribute to a man who was so well respected at Bierspool.
Adrian Slade helped out with the refereeing side of things and sponsorship for the tournament, which consisted of mixed teams and ten minute matches, came from Aldi, Mr Chips, Justin’s Joint, Celtic food services, Tara’s Barber Shop, Red Rose Inn, WP Lewis and Son, Wilko, Jenkins and Davies Engineering, Billycan, First and Last, and John Roberts and Son.
There was also entertainment on hand and a bouncy castle for children, and a barbecue available throughout.
And chief organiser Gareth Scourfield, who started the day by briefing all captains about what the event was about, was delighted with how things turned out.
“I want to thank all the teams that helped make the day a great success,” he said.
“Also to Adrian for helping ref the games, and everyone who helped me organise the day.”
Indeed, Tony Wilcox and his staff were busy behind the bar with the club house full until late into the evening, and Gareth has already said he intends to run the tournament again next year.
