Pembrokeshire College student Lowri Boorman was crowned 2018 Female British National Topper Champion at the National Championships.
This year’s Championships were held in Weymouth, the 2012 Olympic sailing venue, bringing nearly 300 competitors from Wales, England, Scotland, Ireland and China to race in the six-day regatta.
It completed a great year for Lowri after also winning first female at the Inland Championships at Grafham Water as well as first place in the National Series – a series of six weekend-long competitions around Britain.
This follows a third placed overall finish in the 2017 World Topper Championships in Loctudy, Brittany – securing her place in the British National Squad for the second straight year.
Lowri learnt to sail at Fishguard in 2013 and was selected for the South and West Regional Squad just two months later.
Since then, she has trained regularly at Pembrokeshire venues like Fishguard, Dale, Saundersfoot, Tenby, Milford and Neyland. In 2014, she was selected for the Welsh National Squad and trained in Pwllheli, Cardiff, Swansea and Pembrokeshire.
Lowri was then selected for the British National Squad in 2016.
Next season, she hopes to continue her journey along the Olympic pathway with the next games being held in Tokyo in 2020 – although as so often with the sport, this is very much dependent upon securing funding from sponsorship and grants.
