IT was quite a week for Haverfordwest bred professional rugby player Sam Parry, writes Gordon Thomas.
The former Sir Thomas Picton and Haverfordwest RFC player was called into Warren Gatland’s Wales squad ahead of their Six Nations defence.
Then it was leaked in the national press that Parry is expected to leave Newport Dragons at the end of the season and has signed a four-year deal with the Ospreys.
With Wales, British Lions and Ospreys star Richard Hibbard set to join Gloucester, the 22-year-old is favourite to fill Hibbard’s massive boots with the Ospreys and possibly Wales.
He has played 48 times over three seasons since joining the Dragons from Welsh Premiership club Llandovery.
Parry’s father Stephen said: “He’s relishing the prospect of playing with the Ospreys next season and is ecstatic to be called into the full Wales squad.”
