A rare pair of twin foals made their first public appearance at Aberystwyth Show in June.
The two-month-old twins, named Celtic Lucky Lady and Celtic Lucky Lass are by the seven-year-old black Shire mare, Penlan Ceri Rose and owned by Jason and Helen Harries. Helen’s parents, breeders Mervyn and Fernleigh Smith, of Llandysul, have been shire horse enthusiasts for more than 40 years.
Helen said: “Our aim is not just to breed shires but to breed good quality, healthy animals. Shire horses are gentle giants and make great all round horses turning their hooves to many different disciplines, there are shire horses competing all over the country under saddle, in harness and in hand.”
