J. J. Morris reports another good turnout. The barren cow section sold to a fast trade. The sheep section saw a good trade in all sections. Cull ewes sold well but the quality was very mixed. A few more ewes and lambs were presented and they sold to a fast trade.

J. J. MORRIS reports: Prime hoggets (389). A fair entry of lambs was seen this week selling to an improved trade compared to last week. More lambs could have been sold to advantage.
Top prices p/kg: 36k 194p Phillips, Upper Portclew; 37k 193p Edwards, Penbryn Park; 36k 193p Whittal-Williams, Cwm Farm. Overall average: 184.65p/kg.
Cull ewes and rams (230): A good entry of ewes and rams was seen selling to a faster trade compared to last week with the stronger type ewes being in good demand. Top prices: £106, £102 Suffolks Thomas, Carregllys; £100, £81, £77, £72, £66 Jones and Roberts, Penparc; £99, £84.50, £78.50 Thomas and Son, Cildywyll. Rams top prices: £65, £61, £56 Rowe, Rhyndaston; £63, £55.50, £46.50 John, Lacques Fawr; £55 Davies, Mount Pleasant.
Ewes and lambs: A small entry of ewes and electronically tagged lambs forward from Hopkins, Clyngwynne Farm peaked at £162, £156, £138, £135 and £131 per head.
Fat cattle: A small entry of cattle saw prices top at 135.50p/kg for a 625 kilo Aberdeen Angus steer from Burchmore, Garness Farm who also sold a 560 kilo Meuse Rhine Issel at 119.50p/kg; and 133.50p for a 550 kilo Simmental heifer from Harris and Son, Ffosddu Fach.
Overage heifers: Two overage heifers from Harris and Son, Ffosddu Fach sold to a top of 142p/kg for a 640 kilo Belgian Blue and a 605 kilo Limousin sold at 130p/kg.
Cull cows: A small entry of cows was forward with prices topping at £590 for a 740 kilo Guernsey from Thompson, Ysguborwen which sold at 80p/kg; £480 for a 580 kilo Holstein Friesian from Davies, Brynhyfryd Farm which sold at 83p/kg.
Calves: Bull calves topped at £145 for a Hereford from Davies, Ty Coed Farm. The best dairy bred bulls peaked at £82 for a Friesian from Brown, Lower Llantydwell.

Dai Lewis Auctioneers reports a larger entry forward in all sections (267). Barrens sold to a very fast run with keen demand for all categories. Weaned calves and store cattle met fierce competition, with several purchasers leaving empty handed. A special entry of cows and calves and in calves sold well.

Hoggets saw another brisk run for all categories levelling on a par with recent days’ trends with the decreasing Euro value being a contributing factor for slower export orders. Stores held their ground, while culls met another fast trade throughout. In lambers and couples sold to a strong trade, with plenty of farmer buyers present.
