Pembrokeshire played host to a prestigious event this week, as Britain’s largest dairy co-operative held its agm in the county.
First Milk, which owns the Haverfordwest Cheese Factory in Merlins Bridge and has more than 300 farmer members in the area, held its agm and conference in the county on Monday and Tuesday.
Speaking at the conference, Richard Greenhalgh, First Milk’s chairman, said the co-operative was well-positioned to overcome current challenges in the market.
He said: “Everyone will recognise that the economic and market environment we are operating in has changed significantly over the past few months.
“However, we have taken these challenges and opportunities in our stride and positioned ourselves to ride the waves.
“While our business strategy remains unchanged, we have demonstrated flexibility and nimbleness to reshape our business and our product range to focus resources where it matters most.
“I am convinced that the challenging market conditions create opportunities for well-placed companies like First Milk.”
The two-day event began with a dinner at the county showground in Withybush, where Wales and British Lions rugby legend Gareth Edwards entertained more than 420 guests with stories from his sporting and broadcasting careers.
The following morning, Elin Jones, Welsh Assembly minister for rural affairs opened the business conference.
This was followed by presentations from members of the board and executive team, and formal agm business.
