NOTHING could separate two of Pembrokeshire’s top dairy herds in the fight for a new award.
The herds of Geoff Lewis, of Pearson Farm, St Brides, and the Llewellin family, of Lower House, Clarbeston, were named joint winners of a new championship award in the Pembrokeshire NMR herds competition.
The two herds accumulated the most points in the competition classes and shared a new trophy kindly donated by Mole Valley Farmers.
Seventeen herds entered the competition this year, with the best small herd award going to the Hean Castle Estate, Saundersfoot, and the large herd award to O. M. Davies and sons, of Pencwarre, Crymych.
The Ayrshire herd of the Williams family of Home Farm, Leweston, Camrose, took the prize for best non- Holstein Friesian herd, while the best organic herd came from Tedion Farm, Lawrenny.
The main herd judge Keith Williams, of Haverhill, Spittal, and youngstock judge Nev Roberts, of Wern Farm, Drefach, both said they enjoyed visiting all the farms and said it was a very difficult competition to judge.
The results were announced at a dinner at the Plas Hyfryd Hotel, Narberth in December.
