Super sniffer dogs from Pembrokeshire are preparing to show off their skills at the London 2012 Olympics.

Former Ministry of Defence dog handler Stuart Phillips now runs his own specialist search dog business, Bwy Canine, based in Llandissilio.

He has been asked to work with his explosive detection dog teams on the site of the London Olympics, before during and after the games.

Stuart said: “It’s really exciting being asked to work at the site of the Olympics, I’ll be working alongside the police and other agencies at various locations in London, and will be there full-time during the games, the paralympics and for a while afterwards.”

Stuart started his career working with the MOD in Brawdy, where he spent more than a decade dog training and handling, but left the forces two years ago to set up his own business.

He now has several search dogs trained to seek out anything from explosives to illegal immigrants, and has worked with a number of police forces at crime scenes, and assisted with the detection of drugs, cash and people.

His work has taken him all over the UK and Europe, he supplies trained dogs to he police, trains handlers, and visits schools and youth groups to offer drug education.

Stuart also visits local animal rescue centres looking for dogs with the potential for detection work.

He said: “We’re very busy at the moment which is great, I love it. Every day is different, it really interesting, and with dogs anything is possible.”
