Pembroke Dock

The funeral of Theodora Ruth Pugh better known as Ruth was held recently, with a service at St Teilo’s Church, Pembroke Dock followed by cremation at Parc Gwyn.. She died peacefully at Ward 4, Withybush Hospital with her family at her side.

Ruth was originally from the Rhodda Valleys and moved to Pembrokeshire in 1952 when she married her late husband David. In 1980 she returned to live in Pontypridd but due to ill health she came back to Pembrokeshire to live with her daughter Bridget and family.

She leaves to mourn Bridget, Mark, Susan, Jim, Jean, Rob, Margaret, Joy (daughters and sons-in-law); Marina (sister); Beryl, John, Danny (sister and brother-in-laws); Mark, Mathew, Thomas, David, Leah, Jayson, Alanda, Sarah, Anghard, Leanne, Liam, Kelly, Lauren, Samantha (grandchildren) and Mark, Millie, Betsi, Cara, Cennedi, Lexi, Poppy, Ellis, Caitlin, Amy, Dylan, Dan, Jacob, William, Scarlet and Jenson (great grandchildren).

The bearers were Mark, Mathew, Thomas, Davies Jones, Jayson Hemmings (grandsons), Chris Jones and Richard Maynard (friends).

Unable to attend were Mark (son-in-law); Marina (sister); John (brother-in-law).

The funeral arrangements were carried out by Neil Roberts and son, Pembroke Dock.

Mrs Margaret Williams

Pembroke

Margaret Williams of Upper Row, Golden Hill, Pembroke died peacefully at Withybush Hospital on March 16th aged 87 preceded by her husband Ronald.

Margaret moved to Pembroke from Nant-y-Moel aged 14 and it is here she met her husband and went on to have four children Keith, Derek, Glenys and Dilwyn. Her main interests were her family, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

The service took place at Westgate Evangelical Chapel on Monday March 26th. It was officiated by Rev Rob James, processional music and vocals by Sarah Benbow. A tribute was given by Julie Jones (granddaughter). The bearers were Phillips, Paul, Jonathan, Keith, Daniel (Williams) (grandsons), Steven Jones (grandson-in-law).

The principal mourners are Keith and Kath Williams, Derek Williams, Dilwyn and Jane Williams (sons and daughters-in-law); Glenys and Richard Goodacre (daughter and son-in-law); Phillip, Paul, Julie, John, Daniel, Eleri, Jonathan, Keith, Tracey and Clare (grandchildren) and thirteen great grandchildren; Gwen Evans (cousin) plus relatives and friends too numerous to mention.

There were family flowers only with donations to CISU Withybush Hospital c/o Mr Graham Thomas, 34 Charles Thomas Avenue, Pembroke Dock SA72 6UR.

The funeral arrangements were carried out by E C Thomas and son, Pembroke Dock.

Mrs Vivien Jeanette Bramhall (Viv)

Amroth

The death occurred at home in Church View, Summerhill, Amroth of Mrs Vivien Jeanette Bramhall (Viv) on March 22nd. She was 63.

Originally from Gorey Eire she was a hairdresser and then went on to work for Scholl Foot Care as a manager, a quality control manager. In 1977 she started a family and later worked at her boys school for 17 years as a volunteer.

Her main interests were teaching swimming, teaching keep fit classes, short mat bowling until too disabled, she then took a secretarial role at the bowling club. She helped start a new bowling club in her home locality.

The family left to mourn and principal mourners are Rod (husband); Andrew, Simon and John (sons); Steve Bramhall (stepson); Stella Simpson (sister); Derek Tyrrell (brother).

The funeral service was held at Parc Gwyn Crematorium, Narberth and was officiated by Michael Ashbridge, celebrant (humanist).

The bearers were Andrew, Simon, John and Steven (sons and stepson).

There were family flowers only with donations to Motor Neurone Society, The Paul Sartori Foundation and RSPB c/o E C Thomas and Son, Archways, Green Plains, Stepaside SA67 8LT who also carried out the funeral arrangements.

Mr. Victor Evans

Goodwick

The funeral took place of Mr Victor Evans of Park Street, Stop and Call, Goodwick on March 27th after a long and happy life.

Mr Evans aged 91 had lived in the area all his life, and had been a very popular member of the workforce in Trecwn for many years. Since his retirement, his hobby of carpentry played an important role and he was always eager to help neighbours, friends and family.

Victor and Katie were about to celebrate their 59th wedding anniversary.

The service was held at The Chapel of Rest, Fishguard, with Rev. Menna Brown, Rev. Emlyn Jones and Rev. John Roberts officiating. The organist was Mrs Pat Reed. Burial took place at Rhos y Caerau Chapel cemetery, Pencaer.

The bearers were Mr Ronald Thomas, Mr Lyn Davies, Mr Steve Morgan, Mr Dorian Williams, Mr Geraint Evans and Mr Des James.

The family left to mourn are Mrs Katie Evans, Berian, Rachael, Nia and Ffion, and many other family members and friends. Wreaths and flowers were from family members only, with donations in lieu of flowers for Goodwick Surgery being received by Mr Paul Jenkins, Fishguard who carried out the funeral arrangements.

Mr R. J. Griffiths

Johnston

Ronald John Griffiths (Jonnie) died at his home in Johnston on March 20th aged 38.

John was born and brought up in Jordanston and attended Burton V. C School and then Sir Thomas Picton, Haverfordwest.

On leaving school he trained and served his apprenticeship as an electrician with John Barrack Electrical and continued working with him for many years before starting his own business Jonnie Griff Electrical and more recently with RK Electrical.

John was a well-known local sportsman playing cricket for Burton since childhood and was the captain and fixture secretary for the club for several seasons.

He also played football for Johnston for many years, which included managing Johnston 2nds for several seasons, he also held the role of fixtures secretary.

John was a popular character throughout the county, known for his quick wit and sense of humour, always the life and soul of the party.

John was a devoted partner to Lucy and father to Daniel, Cerys and Jenson and step-father to Fraizier.

The service was held at St Mary’s Church, Burton on March 27th, officiated by Reverend Marianne Osborne, followed by internment at Milford Haven Cemetery with approximately 1000 people in attendance, demonstrating his popularity throughout the county. The Bearers were Phil Griffiths, Rob, Griffiths, Mark Griffiths (brothers), Huw Scriven, Terry Davies and Paul Morris (best friends).

The principle mourners were Brian and Jean Griffiths (parents); Lucy (partner); Daniel and Cerys (2 elder children and their mother Julia John), Phil Griffiths and Shan Davies (brother and partner); Rob and Helen Griffiths (brother and sister-in-law); Mark Griffiths and Catherine Reynolds (brother and partner); Jack Davies, James Griffiths, Charlene Griffiths and Michael Griffiths (nephews and nieces); Ron and Mavis Griffiths (grandparents); Dewi and Janet Williams, John and Judy Tarasconi, Christopher Walters (uncle and aunts); Leigh Walters and family, Lindsey Walters and family, Sharon Williams and family, the Sutton family and the John family and other family members too numerous to mention.

There were family flowers only with donations to Bucketful of Hope.

Mrs Mary E Puttock (nee Watts)

Middlesex (formerly of Haverfordwest)

The death of Mary E Puttock occurred recently but unexpectedly at her home in Enfield, Middlesex where she had lived for over 60 years.

She was married to Jim for 58 years whom she met whilst he was serving in the Fleet Air Arm and stationed at Brawdy.

He predeceased her six years ago.

Mary was the daughter of the late Mr and Mrs J B Watts of Portfield Avenue.

She leaves to mourn Ann, Janice and Jan (daughters and son-in-law and families in Australia); Michael and Annette (son and daughter-in-law and family in Spain); Dilys, John and Margaret (sister, brother and sister-in-law, Milford Haven), also other relatives too numerous to mention.

MRS E.M Richards

Merlins Bridge

INADVERTENTLY omitted from the obituary of Mrs Elsie May Richards of St Margarets Close, Merlins Bridge (Western Telegraph, April 18th) were the names of Mr Jimmy Russell (brother) and Doreen and Dave Smith (sister and brother in law).

Mansell Clive Young

Llandissilio

The funeral of Mansel Clive Young took place at St. Tysilio Church Llandissilio on March 15th followed by a service at Parc Gwyn Narberth.

Mansel was born and brought up at Bryn Glandy Mynachlogddu and subsequently moved to Llandissilio.

After leaving school he joined his father’s business, Young Bros Ltd where he remained for fifty years. In 1962 he married Carole and had three sons Adrian, Andrew and Aubrey.

Mansel had many hobbies and interests, which included gardening, travelling and sport. In his youth he was a keen soccer player and continued to sponsor Narberth football and cricket club. Later in life he became an avid supporter, Patron and Sponsor of Narberth Rugby Club for whom his three sons were prominent players. He and Carole enjoyed travelling both in the UK and abroad. Mansel was an active member of the local community which included the Community Council, Playing Field Association, Governing Body of Brynconin CP School, Whitland / Pipriac Twinning Association and Narberth and Whitland Round Table.

There was a large gathering at the church and in Parc Gwyn, it shows he was a true gentleman, character and a family man. Mansel was a stalwart and much respected and was held in high esteem in the community. He was a successful businessman running the family Civil Engineering Business for many years before being joined by his three sons. He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather.

The principal mourners are Carole (wife); Adrian, Julie, Andrew, Maria, Aubrey and Rachel (sons and wives); Rachel, Victoria, Indigo, Jemima, Blossom, Ruby, Holly and Harley (grandchildren); Norman (brother) and Barrie and Eira (brother and sister-in-law) together with other members of the family and friends too numerous to mention.

The services were officiated by the Reverend Kingsley G Taylor.

At the church a reading was made by the Reverend Michael Davies and a tribute was delivered by Dyfrig Davies. Clive Edwards performed a solo ‘The Rose’. The funeral organist was Heather Williams.

At Parc Gwyn a tribute was delivered by the Reverend Huw George and Waldo’s poem ‘Cofio’ was recited by Dr. Roy Davies.

The bearers were Les Owen, David Perkins, James Ogden and Garth Loughran.

There were family flowers only, with donations to Llandissilio / Clynderwen churches and the British Heart Foundation received by Ken Davies and Sons, Clynderwen who also carried out the funeral arrangements.

Janet O’Leary (nee Cato)

Tralee (formerly of Wolfscastle and Haverfordwest)

Janet O’Leary (nee Cato) of St Joseph’s Spa Road, Tralee, passed away suddenly in the Intensive Care Unit of the Kerry General Hospital on February 5th.

Janet was born in Wolfscastle, Haverfordwest in 1951 and moved to Ireland in the early 1960s with Mr and Mrs Chute, The Kerries, by whom she was employed.

She met her husband Billy at a benefit dance in the Old Parklands Hotel. They were married in 1973 and moved back to Tralee where they had lived for the last 38 years.

Janet inherited her love of gardening from her late father Will and always looked forward to spring.

She was blessed with two wonderful children Jennifer and David, with her grandchildren Joshua and Justin the light of her life.

She will be sadly missed by her loving husband Billy; daughter Jennifer; son David; brothers Norman and Levan; her late father’s partner Dilys (in Wales); son-in-law Tommy O’Connor, David’s girlfriend Aisling Conway; grandsons Joshua and Justin; nephews and nieces, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, relatives and many friends.
