Dear Editor:- Through Kathleen Davies (Frogall, Spittal) and Eve Lewis, (Haverfordwest) I learned of an exhibition of Pembroke Main Street in days gone by, which is open to the public on the last Thursday of every month between 2pm and 4pm in the Tabernacle. Last Thursday I visited Pembroke, called in at the Farmers Market, followed by coffee at The Olde Kings Arms, before a little shopping in the Main Street. We then drove via Lamphey to Freshwater East, where we sat on a seat at the top of Happy Balley, on inspection realised that the seat had been dedicated to Keith Edwards and his wife. I knew Keith many years before when he played for Pembroke rugby club. We then went past east Trewent towards Stackpole Quay. This reminded me of many happy memories, taking the canoe to Barafundle or Swan Lake. I then drove to the Eight Arch Bridge, to find that the road was closed. As it was only 11.40am it was too early to much at the Stackpole Inn. I decided to return to Lamphey and lunch at Lamphey Court. We were not disappointed, we were given an extremely warm welcome before a delicious lunch.

We then visited Lamphey Cemetery in order to look for my two aunts and uncles graves, but without success. I did locate Billy and Dido’s Russells who had lived in Sutton, prior to their deaths.

Following this we returned to Pembroke and visited the Tabernacle. What a joy, it is a wonderful display and I would recommend all locals to visit. I was able to give additional information, which I promised to follow up. I remember the Beynon family residing in No 1, but I fail to remember the grumpy old man in No 3. I believe Val Beynon (now Linderburgh to be the only member of the family living, but I have failed to contact her since John died). Please make contact with me Val, who is exactly one week older than me, born on January 14th 1940.

I would also like Penny Evans, who used to live at Main Street, Pembroke - the daughter of the late Reg Evans. Manager of Barclays Banks to make contact. Also I would like to hear from the family who resided above Lloyds, chemist for many years ago.

I encourage everyone to visit the Tabernacle on the last Thursday in April and in the meantime I will continue my research.
