Two students from Ysgol Bro Gwaun are preparing for the trip of a lifetime this October, as they take a taste of Wales to South America.
Catrin Raymond and Angharad Williams have been selected to take part in an Urdd trip to Patagonia, which will explore and enhance connections between Wales and the region.
The girls are among a group of 23 young ambassadors, chosen for both their community and Urdd involvement and their passion for the Welsh language, who will fly to Trelew, Patagonia, in late October.
During the trip they will visit local schools; compete in the Trelew eisteddfod; go white water rafting and take part in an adventure in the Andes.
They will also socialise with the locals at barbecues and at a Welsh tea, and help with charity fundraising events.
They will fly back to Britain on November 5th.
“The interlinked history between Patagonia and Wales is sadly being forgotten and the number of Welsh speakers in Patagonia is decreasing,”
said Catrin.
“This trip will help save the language from being lost in the continent.”
In the run up to October, both girls will be busy raising the funds for this life-changing trip through concerts, charity bingo and other activities.
The money will go towards flights, accommodation and materials that they will use in Patagonia.
“It has always been my dream to go to Patagonia and discover what our forefathers have created on the other side of the world,” said Catrin.
