A motorist who twice rammed a police car in a bid to avoid arrest has been jailed for 15 months.
Andrew Wood’s Volkswagen Golf had been pursued by a police car from Kilgetty to the outskirts of Pembroke Dock.
Rachel Anthony, prosecuting, told Swansea crown court that Wood, aged 51, reached 80mph on the A477 and overtook so dangerously that on-coming drivers were forced to swerve out of the way.
At one stage police laid a stinger device across the road, but Wood managed to steer round it while a pursuing police car ran over it.
Miss Anthony said that close to Pembroke Dock Wood, turned onto a dirt track, followed by the police.
He realised he was trapped, but, instead of giving himself up, he twice reversed into a police car, causing £1,300 of damage.
After his arrest, Wood told officers he hadn’t stopped “because I wanted to get to where I was going”.
Wood, from Swansea, admitted dangerous driving, driving without a licence or insurance, and causing criminal damage.
The judge, Mr Recorder Robert Britton, said Wood could have killed or injured pedestrians, other motorists and police officers alike.
“This is an extremely serious matter,” added the judge.
Wood was also banned from driving for three years and ordered to take an enhanced driving test if he ever wanted a licence.
