Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg got his sea legs today (Thursday) when he boarded the Stena Europe in Fishguard for a tour of the vessel.

Accompanied by leader of the Welsh Liberal Democrats, Kirsty Williams, Mr Clegg embarked on a tour of the ship taking in the bridge, meeting captain Colm Clare and getting to grips with the vessel’s controls.

He then had a private meeting with party members and Stena officials before holding a question and answer session with the ship’s staff, which covered topics including youth unemployment and fuel costs.

“It’s been really impressive to be shown round this extraordinary operation that you run,” he told the crew.

“You’ve just been talking about the pressures that you face, which is very helpful to us to hear.

“The company is a real life line and a really important part of the economy. It is important that you remain prosperous and create more jobs.”
