A Goodwick man accused of stealing money from his employer walked free from magistrates court on Thursday.

Dafydd Lloyd Thomas, aged 31, of Plas Y Gamil Road, denied stealing £583.93 from Euros and Vanessa Harvard-Evans of Pennsylvania Farm Free Range Eggs between April 6th and October 1st, 2010.

Richard Garner, defending, said that Thomas, who was working around the clock to support his newborn baby, often made mistakes when writing out customers’ receipts.

The court heard that over the sixmonth period, 28 customer receipts had been altered to show a larger egg order, while the bottom carbon copy was left unaltered.

Prosecutor Dennis Davies said that Thomas was pocketing the difference.

But when questioned, Thomas said that sometimes customers would change their order after the receipt had been written out.

He said: “Any receipt that was changed was my mistake, because I wasn’t listening or concentrating.

“But as far as I was concerned, any money I received was put in the bag.

“I was sloppy with the receipt book because I wanted to get home to my baby.”

Mr Garner said that the moneybag was often left overnight in the van, which was accessible to all the staff at Pennsylvania Farm.

He added that Thomas, who left school at the age of 17, had not received any training on using the receipt book during the two years that he had worked as a delivery driver at the farm.

But Mr Davies said that it was unlikely that “a thief came along and took the exact amount of money” from the bag.

Thomas denied two counts of theft from employer and was found not guilty by magistrates.
