Pembrokeshire actress and singer Connie Fisher will be back on the small screen this weekend, as she stars in an episode of television hospital drama, Casualty.
Connie is set to play the role of Amanda, the unfortunate dog walker who falls into a cave. Connie said while filming on location she nearly became a real-life casualty herself.
“I was on location in Fforestfach and we were filming in December so it was absolutely freezing. We were in a real 15-foot hole. At one point it started to hail and the set became very very dangerous so we had to build a polystyrene cave to finish off filming,” she said.
“I’m not a stunt woman and I did hurt myself filming the episode, so it made it very real. With a role like this you really have to throw yourself into it. Luckily it was only cuts and bruises.”
After falling into the cave Amanda’s love interest attempts to save her, only to fall into the cave himself. Holby General Hospital paramedics swiftly come to the rescue to save the day. Connie said she enjoyed filming the episode, but it wasn’t without its challenges.
She added: “The part is brilliant and it’s such a good script, I just couldn’t say no. I love Casualty anyway so when they asked me to audition I thought it was a great opportunity.
"I really enjoyed filming the episode, but doing Casualty is very different from other parts because you have to know about the condition your character is in. While you’re acting it, you have think: ‘What stage of the condition am I at now?’
“I was really claustrophobic while we were filming the cave scenes because the space we were in was so cramped.
Filming for four days in the dark was a challenge, because your body begins to shut down if there’s a lack of sunlight. I kept going in and out of consciousness so we had a little light in there with me.”
The episode, entitled When the Gloves Come Off, will air tomorrow (Saturday) on BBC One at 9.10pm.
