A Pembroke Dock man who broke his ankle during a night fishing expedition endured nearly 11 hours of pain before calling for help.
The man had been fishing with his friend at Broad Haven South, near Bosherston. At around midnight he fell over his fishing rod, injuring his leg.
He initially thought that he had sprained his ankle and decided to wait out the night. As yesterday (Thursday) morning dawned the injury became more painful and the pair waited in the lee of the wind for the man's wife to come and pick them up.
They eventually contacted emergency services at 10.45am.
St Govans, Castlemartin, Manorbier and Tenby coastguards were all tasked to the scene, as it was initially thought the casualty would have to be winched up the cliffs.
He was eventually airlifted off the beach by an air ambulance and taken to Withybush Hospital.
