Both of Pembrokeshire's Plaid Cymru candidates have expressed their concerns as to how the three televised leaders' debates impacted the outcome of the election.

“I am convinced that the TV debates have had a huge affect,” said Plaid's south Pembrokeshire candidate John Dixon .

“That is why we were so opposed to it. It has had an affect on the outcome.

“It's obviously a disappointing result, I think that both us and the Liberal Democrats had our votes squeezed due to the fact that people thought it was a vote between the Conservatives and Labour.

“People were voting for who they wanted as Prime Minister rather than their constituency representative.”

Henry Jones Davies, Plaid candidate for Preseli Pembrokeshire agreed the TV debates had been detrimental to his party.

“ We could call it the X Factor election really,” he said. “Wales and Scotland were completely marginalised.

“I don’t know quite how one organises these things in a democracy but everyone should have equal time.

“Wales was marginalised.

“ But it was inevitable really, that’s the way the UK is. It is heavily weighted against the smaller nations but the smaller nations always fight back.”
