Conservative candidate, Stephen Crabb, yesterday used the meeting with pensioners in Newport to address untrue claims by the Labour party that a future Conservative Government will scrap free bus passes, winter fuel payments and free television licenses for pensioners.

Conservative leader, David Cameron, used last week’s television debate to challenge the Prime Minister, Gordon Brown, directly on the scaremongering tactics. Mr Cameron has repeatedly explained that Conservatives will retain these benefits for pensioners.

Speaking to the pensioners group in Newport, Stephen said: "No pensioner in Pembrokeshire should be in any doubt about these false claims being made by labour. Conservatives will support pensioners and do everything possible to enhance their quality of life.

"It is our policy to keep these bus passes and TV licenses and the important winter fuel payments. I call on the local labour party to apologise for this scare mongering of vulnerable people."
