Voters in Carmarthen West and Pembrokeshire South are being offered the chance to ask the politicians vying to be their MP, what they would do to tackle climate change.

Some of Wales’ biggest wildlife and people charities have joined forces to arrange a Question Time style event at 7pm on Thursday April 22nd at The Halliwell Centre, Trinity College, Carmarthen.

Ms Patricia Jones, a local RSPB volunteer from Carmarthen, said: “Climate change is an issue that will affect us all, now and in the future. I believe politicians have a big role to play in helping us in the fight against climate change and I am keen to know what my prospective local MP is planning to do to help us in this fight.”

Adrianna Miller, Oxfam shop manager in Carmarthen, said: “I know that I am not alone when I say that Climate Change is a real concern of mine. It’s already affecting people across the world and it will be on our doorstep soon enough. I want to hear serious commitments to tackle this problem from whoever wants to be our next MP.”

Answering questions on the night will be local candidates Nick Ainger (Labour), John Gossage (Lib Dems), Simon Hart (Conservatives) and John Dixon (Plaid Cymru).

Delyth Willis, who is one of RSPB Cymru’s Ask the Climate Question organisers, said: “Climate change is the most serious challenge facing humanity and nature. The only way we can stop it spiralling out of control is if politicians know there is public support for action.

“A General Election provides the perfect opportunity to give that message loud and clear. RSPB Cymru, CAFOD, Christian Aid, Greenpeace, Green Alliance, Oxfam, Stop Climate Chaos, Tearfund and WWF-UK have joined forces on this crucial issue to ask all their supporters to do one thing: Ask the Climate Question.

“Whether or not you have a question for your local candidates, we are keen to see as many people at the event as possible to show politicians the public care about environment issues.”
