Plaid Cymru members in Preseli gathered at Haverfordwest's Picton Centre to launch the campaign of Henry Jones-Davies, their candidate for the general election.
Henry Jones-Davies said: "I have made a pledge that I will not seek to make any personal gain from the property market, expenses or transport costs as an MP. The next parliament has to be free of the scandals of the past. "If there is a hung parliament, Plaid support will come at a price for whoever tries to form the next government. We will certainly want action on pensions, to put an end to pensioner poverty. It’s time to choose whether Trident nuclear missiles are more important to this country than the well-being of its people.
“We will also want to secure the best deal for the people of Pembrokeshire and Wales. We are not going to accept second best in terms of funding for our public services and our communities. “Not all parties are the same, and we in Plaid are proud to be different. In the forthcoming election, we will be asking everyone to think differently, for the sake of Wales.”
The guest speaker was Plaid Assembly Member Dr Dai Lloyd, who lambasted the culture of sleaze now surrounding Westminster. Dr Lloyd said: "A vote for Plaid is a vote for Wales. When Plaid does well, London governments cannot ignore Welsh needs.
“But there are many more reasons for voting Plaid Cymru. Our MPs are not mired in scandals about house flipping, donations from tax-avoiding fat-cats, cash for questions or cash for influence. “Plaid MPs have worked hard to expose the abuses of power in Westminster and call senior figures to account for their actions. It was Plaid MPs, for example, who led the campaign to impeach Tony Blair for role in pushing us into the Iraq war. Plaid MPs always punch well above their weight.”
