Mari Rees has been selected by Labour party members in Preseli Pembrokeshire.
She is the daughter of a white Welsh-speaking West Walian and a black African nurse from Ghana. Mari grew up in Brecon, where she attended St Joseph ’s Primary School and St David’s Ursuline Convent.
Mari is a former BBC political journalist and now works as a community development worker for Communities First, the Welsh Assembly Government’s multi-million pound regeneration programme for the most economically deprived areas of Wales.
She is the proud aunt of eight nephews and eight nieces. Outside of politics her interests are film, walking and reading historical biographies.
