An emaciated female greyhound was found abandoned on Merlins Hill, Haverfordwest, last Tuesday.

Tattooed in both ears the dog is thought to be an ex-Irish racing dog, aged three and a half.

Kevin Hart, of Broadway Boarding Kennels in Lawrenny, said: "I really couldn't believe the state of this greyhound. She can barely stand up or walk. It's likely that she has been brought over here to race, was no good and subsequently dumped.

"This is a real problem with retired greyhounds. They are often dumped and mistreated when they pass their prime.

Fortunately the charity Greyhound Rescue Wales looks after retired and abused greyhounds.

"We have three other dogs desperate for rehoming this month. We have a male Staffordshire bull terrier cross, who is very friendly and only about ten months old. He was found dumped at Penblewin roundabout near Narberth on May 15th.

"Then there is a beautiful male German shepherd cross about a year old, found in Milford Haven.

"We also have a young tan and white cross breed male dog found abandoned at Burton.

"Last but not least we have a little female Jack Russell found on May 16th.

"The situation is urgent, if we can't get any of these dogs rehomed or into rescue centres they will have to be put down."

Anyone interested in giving any of the dogs a home should ring Kevin Hart on 01646 651133.
