Another distinction in a long record of public service has been achieved by Councillor Roy Llewellyn, of Login, who has become the new chairman of Carmarthenshire County Council.
Cllr Llewellyn, who represents the Llanboidy ward, was nominated by outgoing chairman, Cllr Jim Jones, to take up the prestigious position at last Wednesday's meeting.
"Roy has been a tremendous support to me over the last year, and I am sure he will fit into the seat of chair extremely well," said Cllr Jones.
"He has a long history of public service, and I am sure he will be an ambassador the county can be proud of."
Cllr Llewellyn, who is retired, is chairman of Whitland's Hywel Dda Centre, chairman of the Bro Taf branch of Plaid Cymru, and a deacon and financial secretary of the Baptist chapel in Cwmfelin Mynach.
He is also secretary of Ffynnonwen Community Centre, vice-chair of Menter Taf Myrddin, Whitland and treasurer of the local community newspaper, Y Cardi Bach.
He will be supported in his role as chairman by his consort and wife, Rhoswen, while Cllr David Enoch of Tycroes, near Ammanford is vice-chairman.
Said Cllr Llewellyn: "I am very much looking forward to representing this county, of which we are all so proud."
