A Haverfordwest county councillor says he will closely examine a new planning application for a communication mast in the town.
Plans have been submitted by Hutchinson 3G Ltd, of the Three network, for a 12.5 metre mobile phone base station in Milford Road, Haverfordwest, opposite the rear entrance to Tesco.
The company says the development would form an integral part of a comprehensive network to cover the whole of Britain.
Local residents are already concerned about the health risks of the Tetra communication mast on Haverfordwest police station and the orange mast on the nearby fire station, which are within close proximity to a number of schools, an old people's complex and homes.
They feel that the new mast will only add to the problem.
Cllr Peter Stock says he has been contacted by a number of concerned people in his Portfield constituency.
He said he understood that the planned mast would be similar in size to a lamp post.
"I will be talking to planning officers to find out all the details of the plan and also to see if the mast can be put somewhere else.
"I know how concerned everyone was about the Tetra mast at Haverfordwest Police Station and we do not want a repetition of that," he added.
"We are talking about the quality of people's lives."
Cllr Stock commented: "If I believed that there was any health risk I would want to see the mast put somewhere else."
He added that anyone who is concerned about the mast should contact him on 01437 764039.
Residents in the Milford Road area have already collected more than 100 signatures on a petition against the new mast. They also hope to set up a meeting with MP Stephen Crabb.
