Tenby-born actor Charles Dale plans to take on one of the most challenging roles of his career when he climbs into the saddle to take part in a 1,000-mile charity bike ride.
Charles - currently on screen in BBC Wales' acclaimed series Belonging - hopes to join his brother-in-law Richard Harrison and friend Ed Spankie on the journey from Lands End to John O'Groats to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support in south and west Wales.
All have lost close members of their family to cancer, and were inspired to do the ride after one of Ed's uncles pedalled along it a few years ago at the age of 70.
The journey begins at Lands End on June 10th, and Charles hopes filming commitments will enable him to join parts of the challenge.
Support driver for the 14-day trip will be Richard's father, Ray Harrison.
He recalled that Richard was not noted as an athlete when he attended Tenby's Greenhill School. However, things have changed...
"He has taken part in distance swims to Caldey, 16 marathons including London, Dublin and Paris, various triathlons and is now into distance cycling," he said.
Ed, from Manorbier, who is managing director of Consort Equipment Products, Milford Haven, took up cycling two years ago. The long-distance bug soon bit.
Said Ray: "The real challenge is to raise as much money as possible for Macmillan Cancer Support. The charity is aiming to raise £800,000 in the next three years to provide six new cancer specialists to help families in south west Wales."
