Dear Editor. - Kidney Research UK is offering the opportunity to visit the world's most famous city to take part in the prestigious New York City Marathon.

The marathon takes place on November 5th, but people must register their intention to take part by May 1st. By accepting one of our much sought-after guaranteed places, you will be ensured great support in your training and fundraising, and be helping us fund research to save lives.

The biggest road race in the world, the New York City Marathon draws more than 85,000 applicants, though only 35,000 can take part. The views are amazing as you run through the five boroughs of New York and take in sights you have only seen in movies! And crossing the finishing line in Central Park will undoubtedly be one of the greatest thrills of a lifetime.

To register, you pay £285, which covers flights and accommodation for the weekend. However, you must also commit to raising £2,000 in sponsorship. It may sound a daunting sum, but our professional fundraisers will support you in attaining this in an enjoyable and simple way.

This is your chance to experience the challenge of a lifetime. Furthermore, there are 2.5 million people in the UK today with chronic kidney disease, and your efforts will help us raise money we vitally need to fund research to save lives.
