A Tesco delivery lorry overturned and caught fire when it crashed into Merlins Bridge roundabout at 5.45am on Friday.
The driver escaped the burning wreckage through the smashed windscreen and was taken to Withybush Hospital where he was treated for minor injuries and shock.
A policeman at the scene said: "It is a miracle he wasn't seriously hurt."
Police, fire crews, an ambulance and representatives from Pembrokeshire County Council attended at the busy roadside.
The articulated lorry was travelling along Freemans Way on route to Milford Haven when the accident occurred.
Firefighters extinguished the blaze and made the leaking fuel tank safe by laying a foam blanket.
The slogan 'You Shop, We Drop' was still legible on the upturned trailer.
A crane was used to put the vehicle the right way up, but the cab of the lorry was burned out and had to be taken away by a recovery company at 9.30am.
A replacement cab was then brought in and the trailer, which is thought to have contained food, was towed away.
The road was completely clear by 11am. A police spokesman said there was some disturbance to traffic but the road was not closed at any point. He went on to say the situation would have been worse had the schools and college not been closed for the Easter holiday.
A county council spokesman confirmed that the roundabout, which is currently undergoing work, was damaged in the collision.
Police and the fire service will be carrying out investigations into the cause of the accident.
Further traffic disruptions are anticipated as the traffic lights scheme at Merlins Bridge is installed. It will be completed at the end of May, but there will be delays over the next couple of weeks.
