The first meeting for the auto grass club was held on Easter Sunday, and it was the club's best ever club race meeting, writes Joan Bevans.
With nearly 170 drivers in the 16 classes and with the driving skills, manoeuvres and close racing, the meeting was a huge success.
The track, as always, was in excellent condition, which the drivers always admire.
Apart from the large home entry of PAC race cars, they were joined by the neighbouring south Wales league, along with entries from Southern Ireland from the West Waterford, Marlow and Cork clubs, as well as drives from Radford, Atheston, Cambridge, Yorkshire Dales and Down from Northern Ireland.
The landlord of the Pembroke Autograss Club studied all PAC racecars and made a very difficult decision by judging the best turned out saloon and special cars.
The awards, sponsored by Graham Harries and Raymond Rees, went to PAC 33 - Mel Jones from Begelly for the best saloon and PAC 82 - Robert Davies from Kidwelly for the best turned out special.
All drivers completed in the two qualifying heats, with the top eight or ten entering the grand finals, which produced spectacular racing.
The Pembroke Autograss Club's second race meeting of the 2006 season will be held on Sunday, April 30th at noon Lamphey racetrack, Lamphey, near Pembroke.
