As Girls Aloud sing their hit Long Hot Summer, they could be summing up the past few months for local indie rock'n'rollers Supergene.

Following industry advice, the band, formerly known as Supernauts, have changed their name to Supergene, surely a blueprint for success.

And, with nine new tracks honed to perfection, they entered Sonic One Studios to record their second demo album.

Having been lucky enough to receive an advance copy, I can reveal that it is every bit as good as their first offering.

Well known for their bilingual approach to music, the boys have been picked up by S4C music show Popty and will be appearing at 4pm on September 20th.

And now BBC Wales' Stuart Cable has jumped on the Supergene bandwagon. "Stuart is a big fan. We've been played on his show an unprecedented amount of times for an unsigned band," said bassist Richard.

Supergene's band chemistry is undeniable. Their defining characteristics? An infectious energy and a performance that is bright, tight and vibrant. Their sound? Gorgeous swells of music emotion as they follow the epic indie-rock trajectory; a guitar based rock band for whom keyboards are an integral part of their emotive drive.

Recognising the importance of their grass roots following, Supergene joyfully introduced their new material, from the jittery throb of Made In Japan to the sumptuous swells of Signal, by organising a special gig for their loyal forum followers at a local watering hole. Job done, no sooner had they loaded their flight cases into the van than they were off for their next appearance at Llanelli's Big Day Out on Bank Holiday Saturday, sharing the bill with chart luminaries Liberty X and Girls Aloud. So it seems that, even in this long shimmering musical summer, Supergene have been dazzling.
