Local organisers are gearing up for the second Welsh Organic Farming and Food Industry Event.
The event, at Pembrokeshire College on October 25th and 26th, is the premiere showcase for organic producers in Wales.
On the first day the programme includes a tour of Caerfai Farm at St Davids which will give and insight into how the organic farming community is looking at every sustainable alternative to boost farm incomes. The day includes an organic lunch and a discussion with TV chef Angela Gray on organic food, menus and sourcing produce.
There will also be discussions on greening your business and tourism and organic food marketing. The second day will be the conference proper at Pembrokeshire College incorporating displays by organic producers from all over Wales.
Speakers include: organic yoghurt pioneer Gareth Rowlands, who established Rachels Dairy; Dr Brian John, of the West Wales Energy Centre, and Patrick Holden, of the Soil Association.
The conference was the brainchild of Richard Blacklaw-Jones, Barbara Shone, Tom Latter and Helen Scourfield, who have worked tirelessly to promote the event. Barbara Shone explained that from next year the conference will begin to travel to new venues to promote organic farming in Wales.
Pembrokeshire is tourism and agriculture and we are trying our hardest to show people how organic farming contributes to the economy.
The conference is an excellent opportunity for organic producers and conventional farmers to hear some of the top speakers in the industry.
The first day will provide a fascinating insight into how a successful organic business is run.
She added: I hope that as many farmers and other interested people as possible will attend.
Tickets for the conference are available from Helen Scourfield, telephone 01437 779373, or e-mail Helen@ptptraining.fsworld.co.uk
