The St Davids-based company TYF Adventure has received recognition from Prince Philip as champions for learning in the outdoors.
The Prince presented a certificate to TYF Adventure for its involvement in the Aquapac Outdoor Champions scheme, launched in the autumn to promote participation in outdoor activities. The programme is represented by just 18 'Outdoor Champions' of which TYF Adventure is one.
All are committed to highlighting the role of the outdoors as a powerful learning environment for the promotion of key lifeskills, such as teamworking, problem-solving, goal-setting and decision-making.
Matt O'Brien, from TYF, said: 'We are delighted that our work has been recognised at such a high level. The support given by Aquapac reflects the growing enthusiasm of private businesses to help the education of young people in their personal and social development.'
The scheme is sponsored by the Association for Outdoor Learning and Aquapac International Ltd.
Mr Az Mumin, from Aquapac, has discovered a whole new dimension to what learning is about.
He said: 'TYF has an ability to take fundamental workplace practices, such as goal-setting, and apply them to school and home life as well. It is very powerful; creating a pipeline of learning that does not end at 18.'
