A new novel about Pembrokeshire has been given a fitting 'launch' at Newport Boat Club in the company of many representatives of the local book trade.
The novel, entitled 'On Angel Mountain' and written by local author Brian John, is set in North Pembrokeshire at the time of the 1797 French Invasion. Some of the key events in the story take place in Newport and on the Parrog, which was the town's port in the 18th century.
'The old warehouse which was converted by the Boat Club is also a key location,' said Brian, 'and Carningli, which dominates the town and the estuary, is the place where the climax of the story takes place.'
After the launch party more than 100 guests enjoyed a convivial afternoon talking about books, and resident minstrel Howie George provided a fitting musical accompaniment by playing a range of traditional pieces on his lute.
About 60 copies of the new novel were signed and sold by the author, and the book is now widely available throughout Pembrokeshire at a cover price of £6.99. Brian says that the initial response to the book has been 'very encouraging'.
Later in the month he will be present for further signing sessions in Siop Lyfrau, Newport, and Victoria Bookshop, Haverfordwest.
