Builth Wells 16 Narberth 30
Narberth winger Andrew Jones maintained his good form in the Principality Cup as he followed up his try hat-trick in his previous match with another brace that set the Otters on the way to cup success against a Builth Wells side which has earned the reputation of being doughty cup fighters.
Jones swooped for an early try as he was released by Lloyd Thomas and Aled Davies after good second phase possession won by the pack, crossing at the posts for a try which Aled Davies converted.
Builth fought back and in a sustained period of pressure clawed back six points when outside half Jamie Brown slotted two penalties.
Aled Davies landed a penalty for Narberth and the Otters claimed their second try after a typical Andrew Bowen charge down the middle had been halted close to the line - and Bowen popped the ball up so that second row Emori Katelau sent Jones over for his second try.
Builth Wells finished off the first half scoring when pivot Bowen fired over a drop goal right on half time - but Narberth still held the edge after the interval, with Aled Davies attempting a long-range penalty but his kick was too low.
He quickly made amends, however, as Dai Balkwill and Rob Jones won ball that allowed the Otters to run the ball first right and then left so that a long pass by Davies to Andrew George enabled the full back to utilise space in scoring in the left corner.
Davies missed the conversion and Brown was off-target with another penalty chance before Narberth grabbed a good try that again emanated from a Bowen burst, George and Davies also involved before John Whitticombe dashed away for the score which Davies converted before he rounded off the Otter scoring with a penalty.
Builth Wells had the final word as replacement centre Chris Owen cut through for a try which Bowen goaled - but it was too little too late as the Otters moved confidently into the next round before their stiffest test of the season this Saturday against UWIC at the Lewis Lloyd Ground.
