Work could start on Tenbys new £3 million lifeboat station as early asOctober next year.
National Park members and the RNLI have finally agreed on designs for the new station after several months of discussions.
On Wednesday, development control officer John Griffiths told National Park members that the new amended designs, were as good as they can get.
But he said he was not in a position to make a recommendation to approve the plans until other organisations had a chance to look at them. The plans will now be forwarded to Tenby Town Council and Tenby 2020 for their comments.
Councillor Rosemary Hayes said: This has taken a lot of time and effort by our development control officers and on the part of the RNLI. I think at long last they have come up with the right thing.
Edward Holdaway said: It looks like something which might be worthy of the future.
Elwyn Owen added: I feel it will serve its purpose very well and perhaps in due course it will become an icon.
The new station will be located at Castle Hill. It will house a FSB2 sea-going lifeboat as well as associated crew facilities.
