A 17th century cello once owned by the illegitimate daughter of Tenby-born artist Augustus John is expected is fetch up to £80,000 when it is auctioned by Sothebys in London on November 13th.
The Italian cello belonged to Amaryllis Fleming (1926-1999), who was the lovechild of Augustus John and Eve Fleming, mother of James Bond creator, Ian Fleming.
Amaryllis Fleming took up the cello at the age of nine and won a place at the Royal College of Music in 1943.
She stood in for Bette Davis in the film Connecting Rooms and in the film, the Davis character played the cello. Amaryllis never married and died in July 1999.
Augustus John (1878-1961) was among the most outstanding artists of the 20th century and was elected to the Royal Academy in 1928.
