CONNAHS QUAY NOMADS 2 HWEST COUNTY 2

Manager Jason Jones admitted to a real disappointment in the Bluebirds dressing room even after they had travelled to play the League leaders and come away with a point.

It was obviously an excellent result, but Jason felt that his side had dominated play to such an extent that they had fully deserved to come away with all three points.

The Blues have traditionally played better against top sides and two factors may have contributed to this marked improvement over the scratchy games against Neath and Caernarfon.

Jones played a reshuffled back five, with Mickey George sweeping and Gavin Rees and Jerry Chandler as centre backs, in place of Dai Burrows, who has gone to Aberystwyth.

Another plus factor must surely have been the most welcome return to the Meadow club of Tom Ramuset, whose presence immediately gave the midfield a polish and penetration which have been lacking lately.

The Blues dominated early play and twice Chris Miller, in good scoring positions, could not quite get sufficient power into his shot.

It was he however who did put the visitors ahead midway through the first half when he drove in a fine left-footed strike. 1-0 at half-time was no more than the visitors deserved.

The equaliser, when it came early in the second half, was down to an uncharacteristic blunder by Ben Miles whose fumbling of a cross let the Nomads in.

Shortly afterwards, Miller, who was looking dangerous every time he had the ball (and was Jason Jones man-of-the-match) was brought down as he forged into the penalty area. Andy Hughes made no mistake with the spot kick.

The game could (and perhaps should) have been put beyond the Nomads reach shortly afterwards when Miller went on another fine run and squared the ball to Carl Thomas whose shot was driven wide.

The Nomads were pushing forward by now and eventually pulled back the goal which gave them a point which even their manager admitted was more than they might have deserved.

This fine display will still put the Bluebirds in good heart for the visit of Flexsys Cefn Druids next Saturday (kick-off 2.30 pm).

The Youth side have drawn Pontardawe in the Welsh Youth Cup, and it is hoped to play this game at 2.30 pm on Saturday, on the bottom pitch.
