Hakin United 4 Camrose 1
It has been said that Hakin arent the side this year that they were last year. Funny that considering they have are still unbeaten after a couple of months of this campaign.
True, they may have let in a few more goals this season than they would have liked but any talk of them not being the same force as they were last year is being proved wrong as this victory over Camrose showed.
Vikings boss Chris Tansey was delighted with the result saying: We played better today than we have for a number of weeks. Camrose are one of the top sides in the county and Im pleased to get a win under our belts.
Hakin welcomed Paul Jones back after a few weeks off after his wife gave birth to their first child, but late nights of feeding have obviously made the ace goal poacher rusty as he missed two clear cut chances in the first half.
Thankfully for Tanseys men, Kristan Bennett did not as he put the home side into the lead with a typically strong header from a corner.
Steve Mathias was on fire for the home side and had a glut of possession on the right and he put Mike Cooper through for Hakins second.
Despite appearing to be on the back end of a hiding, Camrose had their chances too with Adi Smith and Dai Davies going close but the score remained 2-0 to Hakin at the interval.
Hakin started the second half very strongly and Jones finally got in on the act when Mathias played him through and he side footed into the back of the net.
They made it 4-0 when Nigel Armstrong saw his header hit the underside of the bar and skipper Gary Dawes was on hand to score.
The visitors refused to give up however and quickly gained some self-respect with two late goals, the first from a penalty by Gareth Williams and the second a well-taken goal by Adi Smith.
Despite the result Camrose assistant manager Bob Nelson is happy with the way things are going for the village side saying: Im reasonably happy. Were giving away sloppy goals but were getting better although there is still a lot of work to do.
