Fishguard and Goodwick 12 Hendy 28

Nineteen points without reply in the second half gave Hendy a win against a Fishguard side which had led by 12-9 at the break and showed sufficient spirit to show new coach Chris Mitchell that the Seagulls can recover from an awful start to the season after so much promise last campaign.

Mitchell dropped himself from his regular prop berth so that he could better assess the situation from the touchline and he was soon watching his team taking an early lead when scrum half John Miles did well to charge down an attempted clearance by outstanding Hendy fly half prospect Carl Thomas and gain the touchdown before the cover.

Thomas quickly made amends with two well-struck penalties and added a third after Huw Evans had relaunched the Seagulls into the lead with a typically clever try after several quick rucks had tied in the cover so that he could ghost through for a try which the centre also converted.

A 12-9 interval lead was never going to be enough to kill off Hendys powerful pack in which experienced No 8 Dean Evans called the shots - and Evans was one of three visiting try scorers alongside flanker Nima Firmani and skipper Mark Tiplady, who played at full back.

Carl Thomas slotted two conversions and although Hendy were good value for victory there was enough to suggest that the Seagulls can rise again!
