Two local young people were able to participate in this years Cutty Sark Tall Ships Race this summer, with the support of sponsorship provided by Milford Haven Port Authority.
Students Andrew Williams, of Whitland, and Kathryn Evans, of Haverfordwest, following awards of £350, each secured berths on the sailing vessel Ice Maiden, competing in the first leg of the Tall Ships Race between Antwerp and Aalesund on the north-west coast of Norway.
Commenting on the port authoritys support, general manager Ted Sangster said: We were pleased to provide sponsorship to allow Andrew and Kathryn the opportunity to participate in this prestigious and unique sailing event. In addition to our sponsorship they both had to contribute towards the cost and our help assured their involvement.
We understand that while there were many arduous and demanding moments during the 790-mile passage, both Andrew and Kathryn fully enjoyed the experience of life in a tall ship.
