Tenby United 14 Cwmllynfell 10

There was something of a buzz at Heywood Lane on Saturday as Tenby United gained a narrow but fully deserved win against a useful Cwmllynfell side which led at the break in a match which was highly competitive.

But the Seasiders rallied after half time and scored the only try of the second period to snatch a first home win that delighted their hardy band of supporters.

Coach Gary Price was as realistic as ever in his appraisal of the match but there was no denying the fact that he was pleased by the way the match went. He again had Mike Evans playing a dominant part up front and there is no doubt that the return of the old warrior has lifted those around him, even when he had ten minutes in the sin-bin.

Jonathan Dodd and Neil Powling always posed a threat behind the scrum and the return of Paul Luger to the centre added a vital power ingredient as he played well alongside Sean and Gavin Brace. Up front, Nicky Allen is back to his best form alongside Evans and Justin Richards, while New Zealander Matt Cammack, Richard Rossiter and Simon Griffiths gave 100% as usual.

Neil Powling gave the Seasiders a positive start with two well-judged penalty kicks but Cwmllynfell came back with a try from second row Rob Hooper which fly half Jamie Richards converted to nudge them ahead.

Powling and Richards then exchanged three-pointers but good work by Paul Broaders, Cammack and the ubiquitous Evans set up a chance for a superb drive by the entire Tenby pack which saw prop Lee Tucker emerge from a pile of bodies over the line with a huge grin after being credited with the touchdown.

Cwm tried hard to come back but were held by a Tenby defence which tackled well and had Powling and Sean Brace kicking well out of defence. Gavin Brace and Dodd also worked hard, as did scrum half Neil Duffy and the final whistle saw the Seasiders celebrating an excellent win - and one which will raise the spirits of the entire Tenby United club.
