HAVERFORDWEST COUNTY 2 FLEXSYS CEFN DRUIDS 2

The Bluebirds rallied after a lack-lustre first half to come back and snatch a draw in this bad-tempered encounter on Saturday.

Jason Jones decision to tinker still further with his back five formation and to play Paul Walker as a sweeper did not really pay off.

Walker, who played extremely well at right back in the second half looked ill at ease in his original role and it was a misunderstanding in playing the offside trap which let in the Leagues leading scorer Ross Jefferies for the Flexsys opener in the eighth minute.

Spotting a dithering defence, Jefferies darted through from his own half, and carried the ball for 40 yards before taking on Ben Miles in a one-on-one and burying his ninth goal of the season.

The Bluebirds did get an equaliser in the 29th minute when the Flexsys defence, expecting an offside decision, allowed Andy Hughes to dart through from midfield and to round the keeper, before planting the ball home securely.

It was disappointing though that at this stage, wing backs Blain and Rickard were being played clear behind the Druids defence, only for the final crosses to be poor ones.

The Druids went back into the lead in the 42nd minute when Ben Miles could only parry a fine cross from Craig Salisbury on the left and striker Mike Davies was able to get to the ball on the six-yard line and poke it home.

After a management blast at half-time, the Bluebirds came out for the second period looking much more assertive.

They peppered the Druids goal for some while, with keeper David Blowers being responsible for keeping the Druids in front, one save from Carl Thomas in particular being a blinder.

The equaliser did finally come however in the 73rd minute when Ramusets cross from the left was met by Carl Thomas who thundered a header against the crossbar from 15 yards and was able to follow up and flick home a second header.

From then on, the game brewed up into a fairly torrid business. The Druids Paul Morris was dismissed for a second bookable offence. Gavin Rees then appeared to have scored the winner when he met Ramusets free kick with a glancing header into the right hand corner of the net, only for referee Nigel Richards, who initially awarded the goal, to consult his assistant and to rule that sub Steve Mardenborough was in an offside position.

Gavin Rees then appeared to have fouled Jefferies in his own penalty area and Flexsys tempers seemed to boil up at referee Richards decision not to award a penalty.

Perhaps in the wake of the ensuing bad temper, their winger Dave Connor then scythed into Ramuset in a manner which gave the referee little option other than to award him Flexsys second red card of the afternoon.

There was still the chance for the Blues to snatch a winner, but Paul Burrows blasted volley fired just wide.

The Bluebirds maintain their unbeaten home record but will once again be disappointed that they could not pick up all three points against a lowly-placed side. On Saturday they travel to Oswestry and a bus will be leaving the bus station at 7 am. Supporters who would like to travel should ring David Hughes on (01437) 710177.

Meanwhile, there is an attractive game on the Bridge Meadow on Saturday when the Welsh League Reserve Division side play Skewen Athletic, kick-off 2.15 pm.
