Local cheesemakers have excelled themselves at the World Cheese Awards.
Formerly the London International Cheese Show, the World Cheese Awards took place in London from November 1st to 4th, with the largest collection of international entries ever assembled in the UK.
Ninety-five judges, including international cheese experts and representatives from specialist retailers such as Fortnum and Masons, picked the winners from hundreds of world-wide entries.
Pantmawr Farm of Pembrokeshire, won gold for their oak-smoked Caws Cerwyn in the smoked cheese class.
Teifi Farmhouse Cheese, of Llandysul, Ceredigion, won gold for its Teifi Farmhouse in the award for cheese produced on a farm with total output not exceeding two tonnes per week. Llanboidy Cheesemakers, of Carmarthenshire, took bronze in the same section for its Llanboidy Farmhouse Cheese, as well as bronze in the best new cheese award for its new Cilowen Organic. Caws Cenarth, of Boncath, took bronze in the class for the best hard pressed cheese (not cheddar).
WDA agri-food director Wynfford James commented: Our cheese-makers are really flying the flag for the Welsh food industry. These awards come just weeks after Wales won an impressive four British Championship awards, as well as seven gold, four silver and ten bronze medals at the British Cheese Awards.
