THE Pembrokeshire communities of Angle and Caerfarchell are the latest to feature in the National Park Authoritys conservation spotlight.
They are among the 14 designated Conservation Areas in the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park and the stage has now been reached for both communities to produce their conservation statements. Over recent months residents and National Park building conservation staff have been meeting regularly and compiling information on the communities, their origins, archaeology, architecture and history.
Members of the Angle working group are community councillors Bob Roch and Roy Watkins, together with Pam Stringer and Eileen Jones. At Caerfarchell the group members are St Davids city councillors Peter Davies and Malcolm Gray and council clerk David Menday.
Both teams have been joined by two National Park staff members, building conservation officer Rob Scourfield and conservation area officer Clarissa Wells.
At Angle the Village Hall will be staging an exhibition on Wednesday, November 21st, at which the draft statement prepared by the working group will be on view for consultation.
Then and now photographs of the village and its special buildings will also be displayed, and refreshments will be provided.
The exhibition is open from 10.30 am to 7 pm. The draft statement compiled by the Caerfarchell working group is currently on view at Caerfarchell Chapel and at the National Park Visitor Centre at St Davids.
Copies of both draft statements are also available at the Park Authoritys headquarters in Winch Lane, Haverfordwest.
Comments on the drafts are sought from residents and individuals and consultations are also taking place with various public bodies.
Their inputs will be incorporated into the statements before they are submitted respectively to Angle Community Council and St Davids City Council and then to the National Park Authority.
A further stage of the process will come in the new year with the preparation of proposals documents for both communities describing how the conservation areas character can be preserved and enhanced. The current consultation period for Caerfarchell runs until Friday and for Angle until Wednesday, November 28th. Further information is available from Clarissa Wells on 01437 771458.
