THE Bishop of St Davids, the Right Rev D.Huw Jones, is retiring on December 31st.
The 67-year-old Bishop, who began his career as curate at Aberdare in 1959, and was enthroned Bishop of St Davids in 1996, was the 126th in succession to St David.
He was Vicar of Neath from 1961-65, Vicar of Crynant from 1965-69, sub-warden of St Michaels College, Llandaff, from 1974-78, lecturer in the Faculty of Theology at the University College of South Wales and Monmouthshire from 1974-78, Assistant Dean of Faculty from 1977-78, Diocesan Ecumenical Officer in 1979, Dean of Brecon Cathedral and Vicar of Brecon, St Mary and Battle with Llanddew from 1982-93.
He was consecrated Assistant Bishop of St Asaph in 1993 and served on many ecclesiastical bodies, including representing Wales on the British Council of Churches Assembly from 1980-87 and Church in Wales representative on the Council of CYTUN and the Assembly of the Council of Churches for Britain and Ireland in 1990.
