Local people are being asked if they can help a little ray of sunshine catch her plane to Florida for the holiday of a lifetime.

Samantha Riley, aged 11, from Pembroke, took part in the Suns little ray of sunshine competition in August. The competition was aimed at rewarding children who have proved themselves to be extraordinary.

Samantha, who lost a leg following an operation to remove a cancerous growth, made it to the final and was treated to a day in London and a trip on the London Eye.

The winner of the competition, ten-year-old Amanda Froggatt, won a Christmas trip to Florida where she will fulfil her dream to swim with dolphins.

Mrs Froggatt said: Amanda and Samantha got on so well when they met in London. Amanda wanted to raise money so that Samantha could go on holiday with her. From their Nottinghamshire home, the Froggatts have managed to raise £2,000 to send Samantha to Florida. Samantha and her mother, Caroline, will fly out to Florida on December 17th and return on January 8th. Caroline said: Im amazed at how kind everyone has been. From Claire and Amanda, who weve just met, to my mother and sister and Samanthas teachers who have been so supportive over the years. Samanthas disability makes travel by bus or train difficult and the taxi fare for the journey would be around £380. So her family is appealing for somebody to drive them to Gatwick Airport and collect them on their return. They are also looking for anyone who has the use of a villa in the Orlando area and would be prepared to allow Samantha and her mother to use it during their stay.
